Case Study: DuPont
DuPont is pleased that Digital Print CIC has chosen Largo proofers to help educate print workers and improve standards in our industry
The Digital Print Centre of Industrial Collaboration has chosen to use two DuPont Cromalin Largo colour proofing systems for its Colour Master Courses, run jointly by The University of Leeds Department of Colour & Polymer Chemistry and Leeds College of Technology
DuPont Cromalin Largo was chosen as Digital Print CIC’s proofer of choice thanks to the company’s long history of innovation in colour science. The Digital Print CIC uses its reprographic technology experience, together with the central resources of the University of Leeds, to manage systems, innovation and integration projects in printing.
Digital Print CIC administrator, Trevor Lambourne, said: “Over the years, Cromalin has established itself as the leading proofing system in the industry. The Cromalin Largo carries on this tradition, providing excellent stability and wide colour gamut. As such, it is the industry standard colour proofer.”
The course is primarily aimed towards printing companies who wish to increase their level of colour management skills and transfer this benefit into their own working environment. However, the company is looking to expand its intake to include print buyers and brand owners, to raise awareness of colour management within these areas and improve colour understanding right through the print production process.
Lambourne explained: “It is widely recognised within the printing industry that there is a basic lack of understanding of colour control and this is at a time when there is an increasing use of colour in print. This leads to a lowering of expectations, poor quality, confusion and waste. This in turn equates to increasing costs and loss of business.
Competitiveness of UK print
“Through the sharing of our knowledge of colour and its control across the printing process, we hope to directly increase the performance, quality and thus competitiveness of the UK printing industry.
“The majority of people going through the course will have previous experience with this kind of proofing system. The Largo is perfect for our students because it allows them to experience and understand the benefits of the latest state-of-the-art technology.”
The DuPont Cromalin Largo is driven by DuPont’s award winning Cromanet CS colour control and digital workflow software suite. The system is promoted as a true ‘plug and play’ solution, which uses the latest drop-on-demand inkjet (DOD) technology with roll-fed proofing substrates. The DuPont pigment inks, DuPont paper and output sizes have been tuned to the graphic arts industry.
UK country manager, Jim Walker, concluded: “The DuPont Cromalin technology has long set the industry standard for colour management. We are extremely pleased that Digital Print CIC has chosen Largo proofers to help educate print workers and improve standards in our industry.”
