Investing in inkjet
As part of its efforts to transfer work from screen to digital technology, Shades Screenprint has invested in its third Spyder 320, which will be used primarily for printing on acrylic and glass.
Managing director, Stuart Dawson, explained the decision: “We like the quality of the Spyder, which runs up to 24 hours per day depending on the demand, and the fact we keep coming back to Inca Digital's agent Fujifilm Sericol speaks for itself.”
Installed across two sites, all three Spyders are four-colour models, printing mainly onto glass and acrylic substrates, although they have also been used with adhesive substrates, polyester and plastic. With most of the company's glass and acrylic work, additional screen-printed colours are applied afterwards which requires a high registration accuracy, as offered by the Spyder 320.
Stuart concluded: “Inkjet technology is moving quickly and there will be a lot of changes in speed, quality and flexibility in the future, all of which the Spyder can help us tackle as we move from screen to digital. That and the security of having another Spyder 320 printer as a back up is what spurred us to buy a third machine.”
