Clean sweep for antimicrobial film
Antimicrobial overlay film from MacDermid Autotype has been specified for use in the control panel of a new epilepsy alarm designed by Danish Care Technology.
The Autotex AM graphic overlay was chosen by serigraphic printing and injection moulding specialist, GPV Danprint, during its production of the Epi-Care control panel due to its bacterial protection and resistance to scratching and cleaning. These properties make it suitable for use in a hospital environment.
Technical director at the company manufacturing the device, CUC Engineering, Steen Jorgensen, said: “Key to the development of the alarm was the need to minimise the threat from bacteria where the product would be used. In addition, we needed the front moulded control panel to be able to withstand daily use and regular cleaning.”
These criteria made Autotex AM the perfect choice of graphic overlay film because it incorporates Microban antimicrobial technology. This is integrated into the textured hard coat during manufacturing for an even distribution throughout the film surface that will not wash or wear away. As a result, Autotex AM offers antimicrobial protection for the life of the alarm to inhibit the growth of a range of bacteria including MRSA. It is also said to be scratch resistant and unaffected by most common solvents and chemicals.
Other benefits are said to include the ability to produce high definition graphics via reverse printing, plus a long flex life and excellent ink adhesion, which make it ideal for use with tactile or embossed keys.
Steen Jorgensen concluded: “Autotex AM was the only film with the right combination of antimicrobial protection and resistance to wear. We are so pleased with the results that we have decided to incorporate the film into our new dialysis alarm.”
