PDF perfection for large format workflows
The Ghent PDF Workgroup has introduced new specifications set to promote best practice in large format digital and screen printing workflows
Four new specifications have been released by the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) in a bid to address the large format digital printing and screen printing markets as they move to PDF workflows. The new specifications add to the GWG 2005 v3 publications, offering best practice for PDF file exchange in graphic arts and publishing applications. Both are available for free download from the GWG website.
Technical director of screen and digital printer, the SP Group, Nick Stevens, said: “Customers are generally well informed regarding litho specifications, but often don't understand the requirements of screen or digital processes, therefore these new standards will help them to deliver files appropriate to these processes.”
Co-chair of the GWG specifications subcommittee, technical product manager for Enfocus, Andy Den Tandt, added: “The group is pleased about the speed with which the specifications have been developed. The goal of the GWG is to promote reliable digital documents that can be used from creation to final print production. To accomplish this, we consider the entire workflow and all the steps that influence the final result.”
For large format digital printing including high resolution print productions using screen rulings higher than 60l/cm, or for special screening technologies, GWG recommends the CmykVeryHiRes and SpotVeryHiRes specifications. Alternatively for graphical and industrial screen printing, using screen resolutions between six 6l/cm for outdoor and 60l/cm for indoor, GWG presents the ScreenPrintCmyk and ScreenPrintSpot standards.
