Proud to print
Over the years I’ve edited business-to-business magazines in a variety of sectors. Irrespective of the industry, case studies are always the most prized editorial possession. Readers naturally find users’ real-world experiences more useful that anonymous claims. Unfortunately, suppliers often want to keep their customer list a closely guarded secret, making case studies difficult to extract.
Luckily for readers of Screen Process and Digital Imaging, suppliers of wide format printers and consumables find it rather difficult to hide their customers’ work, especially when its wrapped around a vehicle, hanging in the high street or draped over building.
Thus, suppliers and printers usually abandon any thoughts of cloaking their applications in secrecy and have, instead, simply embraced the concept of case studies.
Most issues of Screen Process and Digital Imaging focus on case studies, highlighting the real-world application of print hardware, substrates, inks, finishing, IT and more. This issue is no exception, with the cover feature exploring the printers used to produce graphics for Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground extension.
More than anything, this steady tide of case studies show how proud printers are to present their work and how proud their suppliers are to be associated with each project.
From this I conclude the large format printing industry is quality driven, partnership focussed, open to criticism and media friendly. A rare and worthy set of values.
