Vizuon CadCam and digital vinyls suit indoor and outdoor applications
Visitors to the Robert Horne Sign & Display stand at Digital Expo/Sign UK 2007 will be able enjoy a ‘five in one’ experience, as this year several of the company’s partners (namely ESKO, SignLab, Alcan and HP) are all located nearby, providing signmakers with a unique opportunity to view a variety of products at close hand
Operating from a colourful primary stand, designed to illustrate how it can offer customers an inspired choice of products, RHSD will also be highlighting its expanding portfolio of digital products. It will even be fielding a second stand (K15) to demonstrate the efficacy of EFI’s new VUTEk QS2000 UV inkjet printer: the only VUTEk machine on show at Sign UK this year.
EFI’s VUTEk QS2000 UV-curing, superwide format printer, which prints directly on to flexible and rigid substrates up to 5.08cm thick, offers six colour printing, with the additional option of white ink. It is designed to combine High-Definition Printing (HDP) with faster production speeds, thus opening up new opportunities for profitable print production. RHSD specialist staff will be on hand to advise on its suitability for specific applications and provide information on other printers in the VUTEk range.
With an established distribution agreement in place with EFI, Robert Horne is using its combination of materials experience and its dedicated team, which forms its Digital Solutions division, to target the UV-curable flat-bed and roll-fed market. Featuring the only VUTEk QS2000 at Sign UK on its stand, Robert Horne says that a number of the manufacturer's machines have been sold and installed since the partnership between the two companies started more than a year ago. This, in turn, has led to an increase in popularity for its digitally-related products.
Wide-format digital machines
During the years Robert Horne has accrued comprehensive experience of all the technical aspects involved when working with wide-format digital machines. Marrying printer and ink type with the right substrate is an important aspect of every application. Similarly, if technical issues arise relating to any part of the printing process, Robert Horne Sign & Display is positioned ideally to provide the best solution from start to finish. This saves customers having to contact different suppliers to solve their queries.
The company has always had an excellent and enviable reputation in the world of materials. Now this is being complemented to the full by the inclusion of printers, such as those from EFI into its Sign & Display portfolio. Currently a new demonstration suite is being built at Robert Horne's Sign & Display service centre in Manchester and this will house another one of EFI's VUTEk printers, the PV 200, which also prints direct to rigid and flexible materials. The Manchester suite will be the only demonstration site in the UK where customers can see a VUTEk in action.
EFI 's VUTEk QS series is the latest in the company's family of wide-format digital printing solutions and, although it's based on many of the tried and tested principles which have proved so successful in its earlier models, this machine also incorporates a host of new features and capabilities designed to appeal to all users.
Stand K15 will also be showcasing other digital hardware. There will be a Roland Solvjet Pro 3, a Seal 62 Base laminator and a Mimaki JV5. All four machines will be using a variety of products available from Robert Horne Sign & Display including its dtec range of papers, vinyls and finishing products, Avery MPI and Seal, plus a variety of rigid substrates including Dibond Digital and Foamalux. With technical advice on hand, visitors can expect to receive the best advice on how to get the most from digital printing.
Waterproof product
Robert Horne Sign & Display will be showcasing a number of new products on stand K30, including its exclusive Enlite LEDs. Enlite is suitable for a variety of applications including channel letter illumination, back light, indoor lighting, building façade lighting, neon replacement and advertisement signage. The range of module sizes and colours, which Enlite offers, is second to none. The Enlite Mini measures just 11mm wide and can be used in applications where a small but waterproof product (IP67 rated) is required. Enlite offers the following features and benefits:
- High visibility: Enlite beats neon for brightness and visibility
- Uniformity of light: Enlite’s unique optics maximise light output, ensuring even distribution
- Weather resistance: modules are sealed using epoxy and conform with the stringent requirements of IP67
- Versatility: the compact size of modules in a variety of sizes allows the system to be used in spaces too small for neon. Light can be directed to hard-to-illuminate places making it suitable for most applications
- Safety: Enlite operates at low voltage (12V DC)
- Robust: manufactured from tough thermoplastic resin, Enlite modules are unlikely to be damaged during transit or installation, ensuring projects can be accurately quoted/estimated.
- Energy efficiency: Enlite can use less than 1W per 30.4cm, 85 per cent less power than equivalent neon lighting
- Low maintenance: with the potential for up to ten-years useful life, Enlite is virtually maintenance free
- Easy installation: simply peel and stick Enlite modules into channel letters. No glass bending or heat sinking is required and Enlite modules can be retrofitted into existing channel letters
Robert Horne Sign & Display will also be launching a new Lexan polycarbonate sheet, specifically designed to diffuse light from LEDs and neon. It will be showcased using the Enlite LEDs.
The new Vizuon range of LG Chem CadCam and digital vinyls are also on show. Suitable for a broad range of indoor and outdoor applications, VizuonCal is designed to offer excellent cutting and weeding properties. It is available in three grades. VizuonCal 4700 is a monomeric vinyl with five-year life expectancy. It suits a full range of sign and graphic applications, plus POP displays and exhibition graphics. It is available in 38 colours. Next comes 6700, a polymeric vinyl. The materials offers a seven-year life, comes in 53 colours and can be used for vehicle wrapping. Finally, 6800 is a seven-year life polymeric vinyl that suits internally illuminated signage. Signmakers can select from 42 different shades.
Environmental manager
Robert Horne’s environmental manager will be on the stand to offer advice on environmental products and discuss the latest developments in the sign market. The centrepiece of the stand is a tree made from Foamalux Xtra: a foam PVC substrate with recycled core. The leaves will be constructed from environmentally friendly products including Priplak polypropylene, Correx polypropylene, Displayline (recycled centred board) and Dibond, which is fully recyclable.
Visitors to the stand will also be able to enter a prize draw to win an Avery Vehicle Wrapping Training Day in Amsterdam. The prize is for two people and includes flights and hotel accommodation. Simply place your business card in the Repsol box on the stand.
Other RHSD products on display will include SignLab signmaking software from CADlink, ESKO’s Kongsberg cutters, printers from HP Scitex and materials from Alcan, as all of these companies are conveniently situated on neighbouring stands. A free map, highlighting other Robert Horne Sign & Display partners will be available for visitors who wish to complete the suggested tour.
