Xerox has been named as European distributor of Esko's packaging software

Packaging software and hardware produced by Esko will now be available from Xerox, following the company's appointment as a European distributor. Esko products will be sold in all countries where Xerox Europe operates, with Esko providing post-sales service and support.

The agreement incorporates a series of digital front end products from the Esko Scope software family that complement the Xerox iGen3 digital production press and the Xerox DocuColor 8000/ 7000/ 5000 digital presses in their ability to produce short run packaging with ultraviolet and scratch free coating options.

Software packages include DeskPack pre-press software that turns Adobe Illustrator CS2 files into a packaging design which can be visualised or modelled in three-dimensions. Also included are Plato, an Adobe certified step-and-repeat application for folding cartons and labels and BackStage, Esko’s workflow server. Xerox will also distribute Esko’s Kongsberg XE10 and i-XE10 digital cutting and creasing tables, used for mock-ups, sample making and converting short packaging runs.

Producers of consumer goods and pharmaceutical companies will be particularly interested in the combination as they produce test marketing for samples of consumer goods or drugs. Using Esko’s Scope and DeskPack software with the iGen3 and the DocuColor familymeans Xerox can provide a cost-effective alternative to short run packaging applications.

Director and general manager, production group, Xerox UK, Anoush Gordon, said: “The Xerox iGen3 is well positioned to print new test marketing for products in the pharmaceutical, toy, health and beauty sectors. Variable data print capabilities make it a valuable tool in creating many variants of package designs.”
