Digital shoot-out for large format printers costing less than £100,000: and now, the more expensive ones as well!

This presentation will show the results of rigorous and equal tests across these machines, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Sophie Matthews-Paul will explain how speed is not everything and that it is possible to get quality from these machines: but not both at the same time.

You will have seen these machines at Digital Expo and Fespa Berlin. Now you will be able to see a comparison of what they can do in an unbiased situation.

Greening up?

Following the shoot-out, there will be a presentation on how to green-up your digital act so you can supply even the greenest customers.

I don't think anyone in the past was that bothered about environmental stuff. What's happened now, of course, is that we've got everyone talking about carbon footprints and pointing fingers at major retailers. This has caused the big companies to issue statements about their environmental policies and those who've done particularly badly are deciding to buck their ideas up. Smaller companies are following suit. These ideas not only follow through what they sell but, inevitably, to packaging, waste and displays.

Some wide-format bureaux now have retailers insisting on eco-friendly print processes and go so far as to refuse to have solvent-based print anywhere in their stores. This also makes sense as there have been a couple of occasions where food and clothing has been ruined because everyone forgot that solvent is heavier than air and falls.

We can see a divide happening across all sizes of retail and other interior jobs. People will move away from solvents and either return to aqueous-based for short-term jobs or UV-curable for longevity.

Demand will also increase for materials to be recycled/recyclable or biodegradable. The waste from our industry is pretty appalling, particularly where jumbo sized short-term jobs are ending up in landfill.

Unveiling: UK market facts and figures

Peter Kiddell will then unveil his latest report on the state of the UK specialist printing market: players who are left; where the market is going; likely winners and losers; and a host of other information widely sought after but seldom found in one place.

Altogether, a day not to be missed.
