Garment decorators supplying the retail fashion and promotional clothing sector can now dip into a new resource offered by the British Garment Decorators Federation (BGDF). The new federation hosts a free internet based networking resource aimed at boosting industry standards and improving business practises.

With access to technical and general business advice, industry views and comment, the site will help the BGDF achieve its aim of helping garment decorators such as printers and embroiderers to build better businesses. A focus on peer-to-peer networking means the site will also encourage debate and positive comment. Other on-line resources include: design and software advice; information on new product updates and market trends; as well as guidance on breaking into new markets and developing new routes to market.

BGDF industry relations manager, Paul Stephenson, explained why the federation was formed: “The idea came about after discussion between industry members, regarding their experiences starting out as sole traders. All were familiar with problems such as technical issues during the night shift, or impossible demands from customers, which are accepted because work is scarce. As a result, they agreed that it would be good to have a place to share these experiences and get some relevant advice and contacts. The BGDF was created to meet this need, helping people that make their living from this industry to solve problems and maximise their profits.”
