A total of 24,220 visitors attended Fespa Berlin over the five days

I rather think people will look back on Fespa Berlin 2007 in the same vein as Woodstock: proud to let people know that they were there. Frazer Chesterman achieved the ‘wow factor’ despite the halls being split on two levels.

A total of 24,220 visitors attended the show over the five days, with the UK coming fourth in representation behind Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland with a total of 910: getting close to Fespa Amsterdam levels. To say the place was buzzing on days one to four would be an understatement: an organiser’s dream in a place that size.

The British Pavilion was situated in Hall 3.1, next to the FESPA stand and other Country Pavilions. It could have been said the location was a no-mans land but we managed to attract our fair share of visitors, possibly because of the other fascinating stands that did not ‘fit’ anywhere else. All our Pavilion exhibitors said the quality and quantity of enquirers was superb.

One of the nonconformist stands was ‘Sensations’, the amazing portfolio of screen printed effects that are the joint production of screen printers and suppliers in the UK and mainland Europe. The book features 23 special effect inks applied in a number of ways to a collection of high-quality designs, creating the most comprehensive single-volume showcase of the arresting, inspirational and stunning effects that screen printing can deliver.

The inks employed, including luminescent, tactile, glitter, mirror, heat-sensitive and scented, contributed to a breathtaking demonstration of screen printing’s capacity to create dynamic special effects. Ideal for showing to print buyers who think they know it all! The text of Sensations is in English, French, German and Spanish, while its ring-binder format allows incorporation of a fifth language via acetate overlays.

The slip-cased book is priced at Euro75 for FESPA members and Euro175 for non-members. Fespa members will need to contact their local association for their member discount code.

If anyone doubts the future of the screen process, be aware the best part of four halls of this vibrant show were devoted to the process, with new developments in all areas on display.

The weather was mostly kind to Berlin, although later in the week thundery conditions and 30deg meant the air conditioning systems were tested but not found wanting: the halls maintained a pleasant atmosphere despite a fair amount of printing going on. Food-wise, I just wish that someone from the NEC had visited. There were restaurants galore, plus stands serving refreshments from fresh orange juice and sausages. The choice was almost endless and at very sensible prices.

All in all, a fantastic show. Frazer, Nigel and their team did an incredible job very efficiently. I look forward to seeing what they can do in Geneva 2008 with Fespa Digital and Munich 2010 for the main Fespa event.
