Driving home the message
Flicking through the channels last night I stopped at a reality vehicle makeover programme. The general idea is a team of mechanics breathe new life into a beaten old vehicle for as little cash as possible. This episode followed the fortunes of an old VW camper van.
It was decided the van needed a custom paint job but there were insufficient funds for a traditional airbrush design. The solution was a ‘new’ technology called vehicle wrapping. Now vehicle wrapping might not be new to you or I but I doubt the general public is fully aware of its potential, so full marks to the programme makers for raising its profile.
The episode then stepped viewers through the full wrapping process including: image design; wide format printing; application and finishing.
I have to say I’ve seen more vehicle wrapping than many people but I still found it interesting. I only hope plenty of viewers found it sufficiently interesting to consider a wrap for themselves.
I think we should see more wide format imaging applications presented to the general public via the mass media. In one form or other, wide format imaging touches most peoples lives, they just don’t know it. By driving home the message that large format imaging is a local, low cost opportunity to enhance both private and work spaces, this industry could benefit from some serious consumption.
