Set to help all industry members achieve consistent colour reproduction, the BPIF is to hold a national colour management conference on 18 September at the Cranmore Park Hotel, Solihull.

Organised by the BPIF’s technical standards committee, the event is titled: Understanding ISO 12647/2 Standard Printing Conditions. It will examine all aspects of introducing a colour managed workflow in small to medium sized printing companies, focusing on the costs and benefits. Sessions will focus on ISO 12647/2 standard printing conditions, ICC profiles, RGB workflows and PDF/X standards, based around a virtual colour managed workflow from RGB image to ISO standard press conditions.

In addition to BPIF technical standards committee chairman, Peter Arnel, confirmed speakers include representatives from Mellow Colour, FE Burman, Ghent Work Group, Bodoni Systems, Turning Point Innovations, Pureprint and Missing Horse Consultancy. The event will also feature company case studies on implementing ISO 12647/2.

Peter Arnel explained: “In today’s competitive market place, there is pressure on printers to ensure they can match colours and maintain visual consistency. The days of relying on press minders to achieve matches by eye are over, with variations in print quality no longer acceptable to customers. ISO 12647/2 allows printers to control all inputs to let the press run at its most effective, saving make ready time and waste and enabling companies with multiple presses to run them consistently. Conforming to the specified values for the proof and press result in a good visual match, while measuring and recording prove consistency through a run. The result is proofs that match press results, with customers feeling satisfied and reassured.”
