Vinyl is still top of the pops
Nearly 45 percent of speciality imagers print on plastics and/or vinyls, according to results of the Substrates and Specialties survey conducted on SGIA.org’s statistics website.
The full report, which is available to all SGIA members, highlights some interesting results, revealing for example, that of the respondents who print on plastics and vinyl, 15 per cent print on pressure-sensitive products. Participants were asked to identify the substrates they use for screen printing, digital imaging and other processes with paper and board accounting for 38 per cent of responses and garments/textiles making up 22 per cent.
SGIA members and survey participants can use the results to spot current and emerging industry trends. New Jersey-based company Selecto-Flash uses the results as a planning tool. President Joe Shondel said: “Information such as plans to purchase new equipment, salary ranges by company size or regional demographics help us in our decision-making process. The substrate survey results will give us a feel for where our industry and competition may be heading.”
Results for specific substrate-process pairings are detailed in the full report, but non-members can also access a summary of the findings.
