Sponsored by Fespa and available through your local Fespa Association, the UK Market Report is the culmination of months of research. The Digital & Screen Printing Association has been constantly besieged for the sort of information available in this report. Thanks to Fespa and DSPA president Peter Kiddell, it can be ordered today.

The markets examined comprise those traditionally known as Point of Sale, Graphics and Industrial Printing. This survey provides readers with up-to-date information on the markets, plus an insight into the future as envisaged by current market leaders.

One thing that is absolutely clear is that these are rapidly changing markets. Processes included are large format digital printing, screen printing, large format offset litho and, to a lesser extent, digital display screens.

Those surveyed are companies using these technologies and providing a service (printers) to end users (media buyers), companies supplying these technologies (ink and equipment suppliers) and end users. As well as statistics on market size and development there will be indications regarding how process technologies are likely to evolve.

The survey is offered on CD (PDF format) or through the DSPA’s website. Statistics are shown graphically and numerically. There are links to points of reference on the internet that provide additional information. The information is designed to be easy to digest and relevant to your business.

The survey was carried out by process experts who have a deep understanding of the markets and access to key decision makers.

Fespa Digital Print Awards 2008

The DSPA is delighted to confirm that the Fespa Digital Print Awards will continue in 2008, with the renewed support of HP.

Launched at Fespa Digital 2006, the Awards are designed to recognise and reward best practice in the digital printing sector, judging entries not simply on their print quality, but on their creativity and use of digital technology to deliver definable advantages to clients.

For 2008, the Awards programme is being simplified and energised with the launch of a new, interactive web site (www.fespadpa.com) providing printers with access to essential information and terms and conditions for entry, plus a simple, online entry mechanism. Entry is free of charge, making participation feasible for small digital printing businesses.

Entries received via the web site will be automatically showcased in a stimulating live, online gallery of entries. Printers will be encouraged to engage with the Awards scheme from start-to-finish, taking the opportunity to score their peers’ entries using a secure online rating system.

Entry, judging and prizes

The Awards website is open for entries from 1 October 2007 to 31 January 2008. A shortlist of commendations in each of eight application categories will be judged by a jury of digital printing experts in February 2008. Category winners will be informed in writing. Entries will be judged on creativity including: originality; impact and design; plus the ‘digital advantage’ in terms of tactical use and productivity or how digital printing enabled a novel approach and/or provided an economic solution.

Stop press

Exciting news in as I write. We have just discovered a UK company that can recycle mesh supported PVC banner material. This is a huge step forward for the disposal of this material that until now has either been shipped to China, dumped in landfill at great expense, or stored in barns all over the UK waiting for the answer. More next issue!
