Digital media gives darkroom results

In line with the transition from the darkroom to the digital arena, Ilford has created Galerie Gold Fibre Silk, a 310gsm inkjet media featuring a traditional barium sulphate (baryta) base.

The baryta base is said to enhance the media surface to give the creamy whites and velvety blacks of a true fibre print, producing high definition images with an extended tonal range for exhibition quality. A backing layer ensures the final image has minimal curl and with no unnecessary additives, the media is designed to last like a traditional photo print.

Sales and marketing director, Ilford Imaging, Andrew Stewart, said: “The base and the coating, together with the media's archival properties, make Galerie Gold the perfect complement to the Galerie Smooth and Classic ranges. When used with pigment ink printers, such as Epson and Canon desktop or wide format models, the results are stunning. They recreate the quality of a bygone age using today's digital technology ”

To complete the package, Ilford has created specific recommendations on using filter factors to create digital toning. These range from standard black and white, warm tone, cool tone and sepia to gold, selenium and blue.
