A new guide to colour management and standardisation has been launched by the BPIF. Introduced at the organisation’s first colour management conference in September, The BPIF Colour Toolkit, has been produced by the technical standards committee and is available free for members to download at www.britishprint.com.

Edited by committee member and group technical director of PurePrint, Aaron Aarcher, the guide takes a step-by-step approach to colour management, following a typical workflow process. Starting with the project brief and the creation of target print conditions, the guide covers the capture and conversion of imagery, viewing, composition, workflow, proofing, plate imaging and calibration and finally, printing. Information on colour management and process controls is given for each stage.

Aaron Archer said: “Navigating your way through colour management and the implementation of ISO standards is no mean feat, which is why the BPIF’s technical standards committee decided to produce this guide. It also lists consultants and industry bodies that can provide practical help. Ultimately, we hope the guide will raise awareness of this complex subject that is of growing interest to our industry’s customers.”
