3M has introduced a new graphics film solution designed to overcome the adhesion problems associated with commercial vehicles, such as deep corrugations or three-dimensional graphic renderings which can cause material lifting in vehicle recesses or cracking due to stress.

Combining 3M Controltac Plus Graphic Film IJ380 and 3M Scotchcal 8580 Overlaminate Film, the new system allows digital or screen-printed graphics to be applied without fear of failure. 3M IJ380 is a 50 micron-thick cast film with a permanent grey adhesive and gloss finish, carrying a five-year external performance warranty.

Available from 3M primary distributors, William Smith and Spandex, the new film is said to have virtually no memory and can be stretched with minimal heat. The printable base film is suitable for both screen and piezo inkjet printing and incorporates 3M’s Controltac adhesive. This means film can be repositioned before adhesive activation, making application easier. As a result it is no longer necessary to limit graphics to confined borders or to make cuts in recessed areas.
