A Leeds print works was transformed into a private art gallery brimming with masterpieces by the likes of Botticelli, Van Gogh and Gainsborough. The premises of Electronic Print Services played host to the temporary exhibition, first shown this summer as part of the National Gallery and Hewlett Packard’s Grand Tour project.

As the mastermind behind the reproduced, life-size masterpieces, EPS’ managing director, Steve Farley, has brought a taste of the Grand Tour to Leeds with 11 of the original 45 pictures shown in London.

Steve said: “The quality is such that some people were even fooled into thinking that real works of art had been left outdoors. Everyone was so delighted with the pictures that we thought it would be a great idea to bring them to Leeds to show people how the reproductions were achieved.”

EPS worked with Hewlett Packard to create the replicas on a new hard wearing vinyl called Epiflex.

Steve added: “We had to ensure that these national treasures were reproduced with 100 per cent accuracy and it certainly challenged printing technology at a whole new level. Thankfully Hewlett Packard was able to provide us with a machine that allowed us to reproduce these images at the highest resolution and we then worked very closely with the gallery’s colour specialist to verify the reproduction and the results have been absolutely incredible.”
