Paul Turner Signwriters undertook a trial of 3M's new IJ380 Controltac Plus Graphic Film with shape memory technology

Now available from William Smith, 3M's new IJ380 Controltac Plus Graphic Film is designed to simplify the vehicle wrap process. The intelligent film is said to offer flexibility when applying large format graphics onto recessed and corrugated surfaces, with shape memory technology to ensure the film will not relax after application.

Developed for maximum 3D conformity, IJ380 stays in position with no need for cutting to relieve stress. This enables valuable time savings and eliminates many of the risks involved in full vehicle wraps. It also incorporates 3M's Controltac adhesive, which allows repositioning during application, making larger graphics easier to apply. IJ380 is available in white opaque with a semi-gloss finish. It is suitable for solvent piezo inkjet printing and for screen printing with solvent based inks.

Following a trial of IJ380, vehicle livery specialist, Paul Turner Signwriters said: "The film did everything it was asked to do, even when applying over hinges. It's a great improvement over previous materials and the overlaminate is a big plus. There was no access grab, which makes it good when it is necessary to remove and re-apply and since application there has been no indication of popping or failing."

To ensure optimum performance from IJ380, vehicles must be cleaned with 3M surface preparation cleaning fluid, which is available from William Smith, together with a range of application tools, including wheel tools designed to ensure activation of the Controltac adhesive.
