Service Graphics printed what is claimed to be the world's largest advent calendar for display at St Pancras station over Christmas

Christmas decorations at London's St Pancras station included a huge advent calendar, printed and installed by Service Graphics, the large format print and display arm of St Ives. The company used its NUR Expedia digital inkjet systems to print the calendar and a recently installed Vutek QS to produce the accompanying interior displays, creating a total of 2,685m2 of graphics.

Alongside the advent calendar and temporary banner produced to cover the calendar during installation, the project included a theatrical Santa's grotto, festive backdrops for carol singers, plus picture graphics on windows, doors, glass balustrades and in the champagne bar. A children's area was also created and Service Graphics was called on to produce colourful floor graphics in this area. In total, the job took two weeks to produce, with a further 10 days for installation. A six-hour, overnight time-slot was adhered to during the installation process to ensure public safety.

Project director, Service Graphics, Sue Woods, explained: "The box-structures that create the advent calendar's windows were made from steel. We printed the outer and inner images onto PVC panes, which were secured in position during installation. Prior to each window opening, the outer image was removed and covered overnight by a frame incorporating a temporary roller blind cover. Each window was opened by a different celebrity to reveal the seasonal images inside."
