Retail Print Solutions is bucking the trend going into 2008 with a number of high value contracts. With its unique flatbed litho presses and a commitment to ‘green' issues, the company states it is continuing to attract clients looking for extra services from traditional print companies.

Ronseal has entrusted Retail Print Solutions with producing its full range of 50,000 shelf barkers which required high definition print onto a styrene substrate, together with the production and application of over 250,000 coloured wood samples.

In June 2007 Ronseal faced a dilemma. Who could produce its shelf display material while meeting the following criteria?

  • Litho quality print direct onto 2mm styrene
  • Source a wide range of timber profiles to present the product range
  • Sample and produce 250,000 coloured wood chips
  • Ensure quality is maintained across the whole project
  • Develop a system for the correct positioning of each sample
  • Give the confidence the project would be handled successfully
Working closely with Ronseal's marketing and technical departments, Retail Print Solutions met the criteria and commenced the sampling and development process November 2007. This involved colour matching over 200 different colour products onto wood substrates.

Once approved, over two tonnes of wood profiles, ranging from pine to hardwood, were finished with the relevant Ronseal products. All the timber came from renewable resources.

In tandem with the wood processing, four tonnes of PVC and polypropylene were litho printed and processed into the 50,000 shelf barkers. The various elements were bought together and assembled using a unique jigging system ensuring the correct position and identity of each wood chip.

A skilled and dedicated workforce of 30 people completed the collation and packing, ensuring the required level of quality assurance was achieved. Working to strict deadlines to meet the Spring launch the whole project was developed and produced in 16-weeks.

Based on the project's success, Retail Print Solutions is now producing the new Eco range of Ronseal shelf barkers using a range of recycled and carbon neutral substrates to promote its new eco friendly products.

With a diverse print production facility offering flatbed litho, silk screen and a range of digital options the need to offer clients an improved production proposition has lead to the introduction of foil blocking, wood processing, acrylic fabrication and assembly services.

With a resolution of up to 1,080dpi and printing area of 2m by any length the introduction of a Vutek printer (which also prints white) offers the opportunity to print directly onto difficult substrates including rubber, glass and copper. Substrates up to 52mm thick can be processed.
