Managing director of the Colchester Print Group, Philip Colchester and print room manager, Peter Ditton, celebrate winning a Green Apple award for the company's policies on reduced water consumption

Environmental best practice at Breckland Print has been recognised in the 2007 Green Apple Awards. Competing against 500 other entrants, Breckland Print won a silver award for its efforts in reducing water consumption and for its elimination of chemicals in the plate-making process.

Philip Colchester, group managing director of the Colchester Print Group, of which Breckland Print is a member, explained: "We took the decision to reduce our environmental impact, not to win awards, but to win and keep customers. However, we are always delighted when our environmental initiatives are recognised and rewarded."

This year the company was granted Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation, which ensures that the company can provide a chain of custody for the paper is uses. This proves the timber from which the paper was made was harvested under strict FSC guidelines.

Philip continued: "The policies and initiatives we put in place make sound environmental and business sense. Reducing the amount of waste going to landfill by 75 per cent and reducing our water and energy consumption allows us to remain competitive and help our customers meet their environmental objectives as well."
