Chinese QA ensures price and performance
British manufacturer of SmartLF wide format scanners and image acquisition software, Colortrac, has appointed a new quality assurance manager at its Chinese subsidiary, Colortrac Imaging Systems. Kevin Zheng will be responsible for keeping costs down through lean production and just-in-time purchasing as well as ensuring robust quality control.
Colortrac Imaging Systems sources components and produces electro-mechanical sub-assemblies for export to Colortrac's UK factory, where the SmartLF range of CCD and CIS scanners are built.
Kevin said: "My job covers cross-functional, cross-organisational, cross-national boundaries. Due to the technical complexity of large-format CCD and CIS scanners, the purchasing of thousands of components from dozens of suppliers is a challenge whatever the production run. We need to extend our system excellence ethos to suppliers to ensure they consistently provide quality components at the right prices."
Since Kevin's appointment Colortrac Imaging Systems has received ISO 9001 surveillance audit and factory inspections from the Production Certification Organisation. It has also passed the ISO14001 audit and expects to receive an ISO14001-compliance certificate soon.
Colortrac's sales and marketing director, Peter de Winter-Brown, added: "Implementing a multi loca-tion/multi-source manufacturing strategy has helped us deliver high performance wide format scanners at an affordable price. With our components and sub-assemblies being sourced from suppliers in China, the UK and elsewhere we needed to update our quality system. Kevin's appointment will help us achieve this goal."
