The Roland Academy was officially opened by Roland DG UK managing director, Jerry Davies, and CEO and principal of Walsall College, Chris Ball

Highlighting its commitment to the future of the sign making industry, Roland DG has established a new educational resource in the form of the Roland Academy at Walsall College.

Developed in conjunction with vocational education establishment, Walsall College, the Roland Academy represents an integrated partnership between industry and training as well as offering improved support to the sign and digital print markets via formal industry accredited training.

Courses on offer at the Roland Academy include: an introduction to digital printing, a Metaza owners workshop, as well as courses in ONYX Postershop, SignLab, CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop.

Situated in a purpose-built suite at the Walsall campus, the academy hosts a number of PCs running design, production and RIP software plus a suite of Roland imaging equipment including digital printers and engraving systems that will be updated regularly. All courses are taught by tutors from the college and Roland DG staff. Guests invited to the official opening were shown around the training suite where they were given demonstrations of Roland’s digital printing and engraving systems, as well as taster sessions of the courses on offer.

Managing director, Roland DG, Jerry Davies, said: “As a manufacturer of printing and imaging systems, we know that using them to their full capability often requires more training than a standard post-installation training session. Training needs to be delivered regularly by skilled educators in an environment that is conducive to learning, at a time and pace that is suitable for the trainee.

“Our intent is clear: to deliver a broad curriculum of consistent and relevant training for the sign and graphics industry at all levels, from absolute novice to experienced industry professional.”
