Kippax glass screen printing equipment will be used to produce 10,000 water closet enclosures for installation in Las Vegas

A semi automatic glass screen printing machine manufactured by Yorkshire company, Kippax, will be used to produce around 10,000 water closet enclosures installed in MGM Grand's $7bn City Centre development in Las Vegas.

The enclosures, which will be manufactured by Goldray Industries of Canada, will feature a faded dot pattern going from solid to clear in a custom manufactured translucent ceramic frit. The design uses glass enamel that is permanently fused to the glass surface at temperatures above 650°C and to secure the contract, Goldray Industries had to show that the work could not be copied in China.

Chief executive of Goldray Industries, Greg Saroka, said: "To get the fine detail we wanted, we needed accurate squeegee pressure as offered by the Kippax."

To achieve the desired result, Goldray ordered a TPS 2000 model, which  includes front screen loading and a patented Thieme Hi-Tech squeegee system with programmable squeegee speed and stroke length. The equipment will also be used to produce other architectural glass applications including floors, doors, wall tiles, worktops, office partitions and skylights where silkscreen printed glass is said to offer aesthetic and practical appeal as well as being more durable than traditional non-ceramic digital printing.
