New wave colour technology

Combining the best of toner and inkjet printing, Océ has introduced a new wide format printing technology called Océ CrystalPoint. The process works by converting colour Océ TonerPearls into a gel, which is then jetted and crystallized onto any type of paper, producing crisp, waterfast images with accurate dot placement.

The first product based on this new technology is the Océ ColorWave 600, which can print both colour and black and white on lower cost untreated and recycled paper. With no need for coated inkjet paper and the ability to print an A0 sheet in 30 seconds, the Océ ColorWave 600 is said to print twice as fast as conventional inkjet systems. Prints dry instantly and Océ claims there is no significant productivity or quality difference between colour and black and white output.

Applications for the technology will be found in the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) market, as well as in the reprographics and business graphics markets. Océ also expects to take CrystalPoint technology beyond initial paper printing applications and has set up an applications centre in Eindhoven to explore high tech manufacturing processes.

CEO of Océ, Rokus van Iperen, commented: "Océ has invested approximately Euro 150 million in developing this technology and anticipates for the coming 15 to 20 years it will be fundamental for new generations of Océ colour printing systems. It represents a major milestone for our company in the wide format printing industry."
