Cutting out waste
Designed to work with materials up to 50mm thick, Zünd's G3 cutter and router family automates all cutting and trimming functions, enhancing the production process and introducing energy savings along the way.
The system is available in nine sizes to suit a variety of materials and applications and is specifically designed for 24/7 operation. Key to its appeal is its full automation and high level of adaptability, provided by a modular tool concept.
Zünd UK's Peter Giddings explained: "There is a massive range of modules, tools and material handling options, yet installation and exchange is quick and easy. Up to three modules can be used at any one time with simple upgrades determined by demand."
Careful thought has gone into the G3's design to ensure that waste and error are reduced. Using its laser pointer and optional ICC camera, Zünd claims that pre-printed graphics can be processed with perfect registration and because tool initialisation is automatic, the risk of misaligned cutting is removed. Features include an integrated dust extraction system and a material transport for rolled and oversized jobs. The conveyor belt serves as a cutting underlay and support during movement. Sheet and board stock are handled by a feeder and the punching module can achieve up to ten holes per second.
Giddings continued: "To achieve these benefits, we combined our solid Swiss craftsmanship and accuracy with the expertise of industrial designer, Richard Amiel. Also, we are confident we can provide the tools needed as materials and applications develop. Automation means our customers can adapt alongside those developments."
Zünd's design efforts also address environmental concerns. Giddings explained: "It's vital in the current market for all users to be ecologically aware, which is why the G3 is designed to reduce material waste. Further benefits result from an integrated vacuum, which is variable between one and 9kW, with 15kW as an option. This lets the cutter generate just the right amount of vacuum for any given task, so energy consumption and operation costs are reduced."
The G3's time-saving features are listed as another asset. Its ergonomic table can be accessed from all sides and with safety in mind, there is a clearance of 60mm between the beam and the cutting surface. The safety system includes light barriers and four emergency stops and the base machine is sold with a two year warranty agreement as standard. An integrated workstation completes the array, with space for a personal computer, accessories and tool storage.
Giddings concluded: "Essentially the G3 is a solid production machine which eliminates waste in terms of time, material and costs. This not only helps revenues but also reduces the ecological footprint of the owner. The most important thing however, is that it's a multifunctional production system that is completely modular - it can be whatever you need it to be."
