Changing face of print
The evolution of the show, which incorporates and builds on Digital Print World (DPW), is in step with the rapid integration of complementary production techniques and processes to maximise added-value services. Most printers are equipped with the machinery to tackle any job, so quantity is no longer an issue. Instead, the emphasis is on the printed product: its price, quality and turnaround speed.
IIR event director, Richard Gayle, explained: "The exhibition will run the gamut from design to mailroom with every step in between. The spotlight will be on the production of added-value creative solutions and end products and the role technology plays in the process."
Managing director of show supporter, Heidelberg UK, George Clarke, said: "Heidelberg is keen to support the show because we have many products complementary to digital print, including the Prinect Digital Manager JDF workflow solution, a number of finishing products and of course, the Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor press which is cost effective for short run, ultra short run and long run work."
Fujifilm is also exhibiting for the first time at the exhibition. Fujifilm marketing manager, Graham Leeson, said: "The show will enable us to demonstrate our growing range of short run printing solutions and bring a few of the digital technologies we were showing at Drupa, to the UK."
In fact, the timing of the show is such that many companies will demonstrate equipment launched at Drupa to the UK market.
As well as over 100 suppliers, Total Print! Expo's education programme will feature spotlight seminars, in-depth workshops and print industry debates in conjunction with Xplor. It is also supported by the, BPIF, PrintIT and BAPC, all of whom will have a strong presence.
Spotlight seminars will each last 30 minutes covering topics such as print room essentials, best practice environmental guidelines, colour management and standards, accurate pdf creation and the rapid evolution of print technologies that can add impact to marketing campaigns. Seats will be allocated free on a first come-first served basis with 40 places per session so online reservation is recommended.
Xplor will be operating a series of free Print Debates, which will take place on the exhibition floor. These debates face the challenges of the print industry head on in an open forum, kicking off with the topic: Is printing in conflict with environmental objectives?
Other issues up for discussion include: will digital win the short-run print market? This is set to explore trends in the UK market and why the implementation of TransPromo and TransInfo applications have been slow to penetrate the UK market as well as their operational impact on printers.
Finally, the Xplor Masterclasses are designed to educate commercial printers well versed in graphic arts, litho and digital printing and should be an excellent place to meet industry experts. Environmental issues are still at the top of the agenda, so the first class focusses on the ways in which printers can educate their customers to make better use of printed communications.
The lean working environment will also be addressed, looking at how lean working practices can be applied to printing. Delegates are also invited to learn how changes in printing have enabled more effective communication with customers. Once again delegates are advised to register online.
