Measuring 3.2 by six metres, the new Zünd flat-bed cutter installed at ESP Technologies Group is claimed to be the biggest in the UK. The company, which specialises in branding applications as well as wide and superwide display print selected the machine to automate many of its finishing processes, including cutting and routing.

The Zünd 3XL-3000CV is able to through and kiss-cut as well as handling engraving and routing operations, working with both roll-fed and rigid materials. This is ideal for ESP, which uses substrates ranging from banners, vinyls and textiles through to hard and soft foamboard, DiBond, acrylics and styrenes.

Working across all types and sizes of material, one of the appeals of the Zünd cutter, was its interchangeable tool inserts. The equipment has replaced a range of time-consuming manual finishing processes and is said to provide accuracy and a clean finish on all jobs, from routing heavy substrates to slitting fine materials.

Managing director of ESP, Stephen Hood concluded: "The unit is now a vital element in our production process and incorporating it into our work-flow, means we can turn jobs round faster and more efficiently."
