Calling all screen printers, help required
In a few weeks I head for Electronica, Europe's largest electronic component exhibition. Naturally, there will be a rather large number of electronic components on display. However, a less known fact is that the show will also be home to a huge range of screen printing applications. From printing solder paste onto circuit boards, to applying membrane keypad graphics, screen printing lies at the heart of the electronics industry.
What disappoints me is the failure of the screen printing industry to shout about this success from the rooftops, thus encouraging more innovation and uptake. Here lies one of the screen printing industry's biggest marketing problems: its diversity. The screen printing sector is made up of a huge range of niche, specialist sectors, none of which have the critical mass to broadcast a dominant, global message that screen is best.
It's beyond the industry itself, it's beyond national and international associations, it's even beyond this magazine, regardless of the fact we present more screen printing market intelligence than any other published title.
Luckily I have a plan. It's simple: a showcase. I'm working on compiling a visual printed documentary of screen printing's role in our lives. I'm looking for quality images that demonstrate the amazing diversity of the screen process from printed circuit assemblies and medical sensors, to vehicle graphics and glass bottles.
I can't do this without your help, so whatever you screen print, send me a picture. I'll take it from there.
