  • A clever cliché

    Kama has developed a new positioning system said to enable die-cutter operators to quickly and precisely mount clichés on the cold mounting plate outside the die-cutter. There are two key factors that lead to time savings: first, cliché mounting can be carried out precisely in one step; second, the die-cutter can continue working on other jobs during mounting.

    Suitable for use with traditional TTC transfer papers and colour laser printers or copiers, Coolstuff products from The MagicTouch can be printed in full colour in less than 10 seconds. The protective sleeves and wallets are made from 3.5mm black SB rubber compound with a white jersey surface, together with black heat resistant thread stitching for durability. Products are compatible with the sublimation ink process.

    Eurojet Dreamscape textured wallwrap is designed to provide a "peel n' stick" solution to applying textured images to a range of surfaces such as wood, aluminium, glass and sealed walls. It is especially useful where traditional wallpaper adhesive is not advisable or where graphics need to be removed and replaced easily. Applications include: backdrops, murals, wallcovering and exhibition graphics. Two surface textures are available and all products come with a Class 0 fire rating in accordance with BS476 parts six and seven.

    3M Scotchcal IJ8624 and 8624ES graphic film for textured surfaces is a conformable cast film designed to give clean photographic quality images on moderately textured flat or curved surfaces. Bricks, breeze-block, tiles and poured cement can now have full-coloured graphics applied. The film is said to offer excellent adhesion when applied using the appropriate 3M tool.

    Kaye-Dee has entered the digital printing world with its Kimoto Freejet 320 which offers an extended CMYKRB colour space and resolution up to 5,760dpi. The system uses a solvent based pre-coating spray and mild solvent ink. This combination is formulated to create a scratch and abrasive resistant layer allowing a wide field of applications including plastic, metal, wood, foam, acrylic, marble and stone.

    MacDermid Autotype has added to its Autotex range of textured, screen printable films with Autotex DP, a polyester film designed to combine an attractive appearance with resistance to abrasion and chemicals. Both the DP F150 and F200 have been approved by Hewlett Packard for use with its S2000, WS2000, WS4050 Indigo digital printing presses.

    Gandi has added the Cyclone UV liquid laminator to its product line, providing a prefect add-on for its Jeti UV flatbed digital printers. The Cyclone can laminate between 30 and 110 linear ft/min, with the UV lamp allowing fast drying. The dryer features a lower stand-by lamp setting to conserve energy. The machine is compatible with the company's new Premium UV-curable inks, which feature in all three Jeti flatbed printers.

    Self-adhesive vinyl manufacturer, Hexis, has launched the third generation of its cast vinyl films for cutting plotters.     Gemini C1-S Recycled is a new range of solid bleached sulphate (SBS) board from the James McNaughton Group, manufactured from 50 per cent de-inked post consumer waste and 50 per cent FSC certified pulp. Made in Scotland, the media has a minimal carbon footprint and because it contains 50 per cent post consumer waste recycled fibre, it also ensures that paper waste is being diverted from UK landfill.
