Funding a brighter future
Seven young people have been successful in this year's Print Futures Awards, which is sponsored by the British Printing Industries Federation, Unite the Union and the Printers' Charitable Corporation. The scholarship scheme, now in its sixth year, will help fund the winners' education and training for a career in the UK printing and graphic arts industries. Awards are for £2,500 each, or £1,250 where an applicant is receiving company funded training support.
National officer for Unite, Steve Sibbald, said: "More than ever, our industry needs enthusiastic and innovative young people such as these. I have no doubt that these awards will be a sound investment."
The 2009 awards were presented at a ceremony hosted by Konica Minolta at its London headquarters in July. Winners revealed their plans for the cash, which range from taking a one-year course with the Chartered Institute of Marketing to completing a four year Impress degree at Leeds University.
The awards are open to anyone between 16 and 30 to train for a career in printing or the graphic arts.
