THE DEFAULT POSITION
The Default Position
Vision Supplies Ltd have been supplying Chim 92 screen cleaning chemistry and machinery exclusively into the UK market for over 7 years. Throughout this period the company has benefitted from a steady increase in the sales of both chemicals and machinery originally manufactured by the Lyon based company.
Neither Vision nor Chim 92 could have predicted just how successful their range of products would be, nor could they have predicted the number of companies that would purchase equipment from them in what has lately been a fairly depressed European economy.
Over 35 machines are installed worldwide, many of which are in Europe, but with Vision now distributing the machines and chemical products in Australia more are on the way to the other side of the world. They are about to ship their fourth machine to Melbourne closely followed by another machine to be delivered to the UK in January, a very busy start to the year for the company.
Chim 92's ‘M' range of screen cleaning machinery has rapidly become the default position for companies who want to make significant improvements to the "conventional" way screens are cleaned within their business while reducing costs, man power, time and also ensuring that the environmental impact of this process is contained and handled in a responsible manner.
With over 7 years of experience in developing the machinery both Vision and Chim 92 have been able to secure relationships with many of the leading screen printers, several of the installations have been well documented in this publication.
Truly Unique
Chim 92 have developed a unique solution to the screen cleaning process with their range of machines and chemicals, Vision are thought to be the only company to offer guaranteed performance on this type of equipment.
To simplify their process, non oil based chemical products are applied to the screens at high pressure, these products are then filtered and recycled within the equipment. The ink and stencil are fully removed within one section before chemical anti-stain products are applied in the following sections. A final high pressure rinse with water allows the screen to exit through the integrated heater unit for drying before exiting the equipment.
By using the M3 or M4 models in excess of 95% of the frames will require no further treatment before being reused, so applying chemical anti-stain, activating solvents and degreasing agents is more or less eliminated by using the Chim 92 system.
Recycling the used chemicals means that very little waste is mixed with the rinsing water, reducing the COD levels of the water which is then discharged to drain and well within most industrial consents to discharge. Unlike conventional systems waste chemical products are discharged automatically into recyclable containers for disposal, Chim 92 machine chemicals are VOC free and low odour adding further operator benefits to the process.
A Case Study
In 2004 one company who invested in the equipment supplied by Vision were B & P Screenprint based in Cheshire, a company who were formerly operating a conventional solvent based screen cleaning machine which required updating. Vision were contacted to supply an alternative to the system and recommended the use of a Chim 92 four module M4 screen cleaning machine.
Paul Waterton, Managing Director of Vision Supplies takes up the story, "Screen cleaning is a difficult process for many companies to invest in, it is often seen as an area which can't be ‘fixed'. Many companies spend a considerable amount of time, effort and money either cleaning frames manually or tolerating poorly performing oil based solvent screen cleaning machinery. There really is no need to compromise the production on the print floor by adopting this approach, B & P are one example of many who have completely transformed their screen cleaning department by using our machinery and range of chemicals."
Since the machine's installation B & P have cleaned more than 25,000 frames, and throughout that 5 year period they have never needed to anti-stain more than 5% of their entire screen cleaning volume.
This number was originally estimated by Vision who make formal performance guarantees on the sale of the screen cleaning machinery supplied by them and manufactured by Chim 92. Waterton continues, "It is my belief that our companies are uniquely positioned in the industry, we are to my knowledge the only company prepared to guarantee the performance of the equipment or refund our client's money in full. In addition, we offer extended warranties up to 7 years from the date of installation offering complete peace of mind to our client base. This was a major consideration for the installation at B & P and history now shows that we have delivered exactly what was promised as has been the case with every installation our company has been involved in."
Les Thomas, Managing Director of B & P confirms this, "From the date of supply we have been delighted with the performance of the Chim 92 equipment and support by Vision. The equipment has delivered in every area promised, our screen cleaning is much more efficient, less costly and our environmental impact transformed by the use of the machine, I would strongly recommend the system to any medium to large screen printing facility. There are many benefits which we hadn't really considered when purchasing the equipment, one of which was the massive reduction in screen stretching costs. The equipment has reduced the number of frames we restretch by virtue of its non-aggressive nature, we no longer need to anti-stain using conventional products which reduces the abrasion to the mesh surface and significantly extends the mesh life. In addition the waste water discharge from the equipment has extremely low COD content, typically below 3,000 mg/ltr which we regularly test."
Time To Consider Change
With many benefits accessible using Chim 92's chemical products and machinery Paul Waterton believes that it's time for companies to consider overhauling their screen cleaning departments, he concludes. "We supply a wide range of chemicals which can be used manually as well as products for our machines. Whether applied manually or automatically there are many common benefits, our products significantly reduce the amount of time taken to clean screens, are easy to use, low odour and do not contain VOC, but the real benefits of our chemicals can be magnified when using our machines. I believe every company using conventional screen cleaning machines can benefit from massive reductions in costs, an extremely high percentage of frames which will require no further treatment, a controlled contained process for disposal of used chemistry and a much cleaner working environment while being assured of the performance and longevity of the equipment by way of formal guarantees, just by switching to our system."
Clean screens in one pass or your money back! Few suppliers would ever make that commitment but Vision and Chim 92 can and do.
