Developed to help control colour quality, X-Rite's VS450 spectrophotometer can measure wet and dry samples without touching test surfaces.
The VS450 claims to measure any sample accurately from a distance of about 38mm. It uses a Line of Sight design and Active Visual Targeting feature to help technicians position the instrument over the sample. The system projects either a six or a 12mm diameter illuminated ring on to the sample to target the desired measurement area.
In addition to measuring colour, the VS450 can measure gloss. When used with X-Rite’s iMatch formulation software, the VS450 compensates for the difference in appearance between dry and wet samples. This helps speed colour formulation, where samples would normally have to be dried for 24 to 72 hours before a measurement can be taken.
