The Rapid X2 Label Printer

The incredible Rapid Label Printing System made its debut at this year’s FESPA and it certainly made an impression. These amazing machines, shown by Impression Technology Europe, have revolutionised the label printing industry by offering high speed production of high quality 4 colour labels at a price that won’t break the bank.

Both of the Rapid models, the X1 and the X2, were shown at the show with them both causing quite a stir. The X1 is a table top unit that will fit easily into any environment whilst the X2 is the larger floor standing model that can be integrated into a finishing system and, as such, is aimed more at the established label printer. So what makes these machines any different to those already available and what made them such a hit at FESPA?

Well a number of things make them attractive but the capital cost is likely to be the most popular. It is the technology behind the hardware however that really hits the spot.  Both models have been developed around the unique Memjet in-line print head which, unlike traditional ink jet heads, remains static using 70,000 nozzles to deliver 744,000,000 drops of ink per second. This means that the machines can deliver high quality full colour labels at the rate of, up to, 18 metres per minute but the revelations do not stop there. Both machines run from a standard PC which, using supplied software, means that the number of units being printed doesn’t matter. There is no elongated set up for each design and so the ‘per label cost’ doesn’t change whether you are printing 1 label or 10,000. What this means of course is that the market for small numbers of full colour labels which previously was difficult, if not impossible, to economically satisfy is now open for business. The designs being transmitted via a standard PC also means that each label can be unique so, for instance, a micro-brewery, could give each bottle label a unique code or number.

Label printing of this type has, in the past, been the sort of service offered only by larger print shops with the machines being financially non-viable for other businesses. This, however, has changed with Rapid and this was one of the main reasons that the machines were so well received at FESPA. Any company can now include label printing in their business plan, whether that be for their own use or to offer the service commercially, without breaking the bank.

These machines really do need to be seen to be believed and you can see them both in operation by watching the You Tube video. Just go to You Tube and search for Rapid Label Printers and you will be amazed. In fact you will probably think that the machines were loaded with pre-printed labels but rest assured that they weren’t – they really do print that fast.
