Pushing the carbon neutral envelope

Tony Porter introduces James McNaughton Group’ latest environmental credentials

The James McNaughton Group is producing its printed matter in conjunction with the Carbon Neutral Company. The first two items are new swatches for recycled products and uncoated stocks.

Group marketing director, Tony Porter, said: “These collection swatches make it easier for customers to see all the grades available in a particular type of product in one place, rather than having a swatch for each individual brand. It will cut the numbers of swatches by half, making storage easier and improving ease of use.

“As a Group, we have made significant progress over the past 12-months with our environmental activities. This includes completely switching to green energy at all our sites and reducing numbers in our gm2 distribution fleet which has cut CO2 emissions significantly. We have also implemented a variety of recycling schemes in our offices and warehouses.”

Regarding gm2, reductions include: 36 vehicles; 1,036,000 miles; 114,048 gallons of diesel; and 975 tonnes of CO2.

New initiatives for 2007 include electric trucks for central London deliveries, with their batteries charged using green renewable energy from wind turbine farms and hydro electric stations.

Other initiatives include GPS which automatically routes deliveries to reduce fuel use while meeting customers’ delivery requirements. Additional environmental benefits have been achieved by handling 3rd party deliveries with the existing fleet.

Every working day gm2 Logistics is responsible for delivering 600 tonnes of paper, board and display products to around 1,350 customers.
