A new colour management tool has been introduced by Sun Chemical, designed to help brand owners predict how their corporate spot colours will reproduce on a variety of substrates, from clear film to white polypropylene. The SmartColour software system allows packaging developers to see real colour end results anywhere in the workflow by displaying real ink colour on the chosen substrate and matching the desired colour with the ink that will deliver this on retailer shelves.
Sun Chemical Europe’s business leader, Patrice Aurenty, said: “When printers fail to match a brand’s spot colour, it can lead to multiple adjustments before the customer ap-proves the job. Such mistakes are expensive and can delay product release and order fulfilment.”
To avert these problems, the SmartColour system lets brand owners, designers, prepress companies and converters standardise, digitise and integrate brand colour management into their packaging and production workflow. One key component of the system is the SmartColour iVue, which takes the guesswork out of matching the spot colour with the substrate on the computer monitor. Operating as an Adobe Photoshop plug-in, iVue relies on the Sun Chemical colour database of real ink colours, on common packaging substrates. This allows users to consider multiple alternatives to deliver a specified brand colour on one or more packaging materials.
