In the last few weeks the news has been dominated by the economic downturn and overcapacity. Resulting changes are not easy to digest, though I'm sure companies are refusing to take things lying down and are now formulating plans to make a difficult situation better for them.
An uncertain market, accelerating technological change, spiralling raw material costs and competition from across the world. This is where Prism comes into its own, acting as a central resource for market information with the UK Market Survey and European Wide Format Survey available to members as part of their package: immediately saving over £1,000.
Energy purchase scheme
At home, most of us have taken advantage of beneficial utility prices by shopping around. How often have we taken the same care obtaining the best energy deal for the workplace? Prism has recognised this imperative and has linked with specialists who will review your requirements and can nearly always guarantee savings over current purchasing. Effective energy purchase schemes can go some way to cushioning the insane energy price hikes that are eroding profitability.
Print industry events
Prism's close working relationship with Fespa is designed to bring an unmatched level of event management to the organisation. Carefully targeted and structured for the audience, the association now runs events where delegates are updated on technology developments and improved business management techniques, while meeting fellow practitioners. Meetings like this can be the catalyst for new business opportunities.
Regulatory bulletin
A big headache for companies using inks, chemicals and print substrates is increasing legislation from Europe and Westminster. A monthly legislation summary is circulated to Prism's membership. The Regulatory Bulletin lists new laws and recommendations, while highlighting those impacting our sectors. The document covers health and safety, environmental and REACH regulations. Compiled by Paul Machin, an experienced chemist and lawyer, the Bulletin is a useful tool in relieving the legislative burden.
Board support
Prism's Board has identified champions for different aspects of the association. Begera Management Consultancy's, Bill Jordan, takes responsibility for membership development. Bill is happy to discuss joining or additional services for current members. MTM's managing director, Ian Greenaway, is working on skills development including print technologies, lean manufacturing, work life balance and business development. Robert Horne Sign and Display's retail specification manager, Clare Burke, is overseeing marketing initiatives. Clare is an invaluable addition to the Board and is focussing on broadcasting Prism's messages to the sector.
