EFI has expanded its suite of inkjet solutions by investing in Jettable, an inkjet technology company specialising in digital printing onto ceramic substrates.
In addition to a range of ceramic inks and pigments, Jettable has already designed a modified print engine capable of high-quality printing on numerous types of porous and non-porous ceramic surfaces. Under the agreement, EFI will provide equity capital toward the development of the next generation single pass production inkjet printer for ceramic tiles.
This new digital print technology, suitable for both short-run and in-line production, could replace current methods such as screen and roller printing, with their high levels of waste inks. Advantages of Jettable ceramic decoration include variable run length and non-contact printing with the ability to handle uneven surfaces.
EFI's CTO, Ghilad Dziesietnik, said: "The introduction of digital printing enables new applications of colour-rich ceramic tiles while providing a reduction in waste. This continues to support EFI's green initiative with lower set-up costs."
