Standing the test of time

Mida Sign Services UK is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Managing director, Mike Smith, said: "We don't just install signs. Our work has now become extremely varied, especially with digital print and graphics which we install onto glazing, floors, walls and vehicles. We also install banners from large one offs, to promotional roll out programs, all nationwide."

Mike explained how things have changed over the years. For example, safety issues have become more important, with site work requiring risk assessments and method statements. Also, engineers must be qualified and have CSCS, IPAF, PASMA and first aid training. The company has gained the accreditation of approved safe contractor for health and safety standards, while also being a member of the British Sign and Graphics Association.

Mike continued: "On the signage side we install a lot of large illuminated flex face signage, and built up internally illuminated letters with LEDs. We don't get much call for neon, that's not to say we can't install or maintain it, just that LEDs seems to be taking over. The same way vinyl and digital print has overtaken sign writing.

"Over the years we have completed contracts in Europe, last year completing an 18 branch re-brand in Germany, including initial site surveys, signage proposals and complete installation."
