Putting coating performance on the spot
Printers and end users are benefiting from enhanced quality and faster turnrounds from Coatings Direct as a result of its investment in an SPS Vitessa XP1 UV screen printing line from Thieme KPX. The equipment plays a vital role in Coatings Direct's work, which includes spot UV varnishing on book covers, jackets and promotional material as well as lamination and cutting and creasing.
Chairman of Coatings Direct, Jon Olley, said: "This investment enables us to cap manning and achieve a 50 per cent greater output than before, safeguarding our competitiveness and enabling us to justify the capital cost. We have found the quality faultless and we have applied spot varnishes with it to 130gsm book jackets through to 400gsm point of sale materials in a variety of formats. Customers have also noticed the improvement in delivery times.
"Staff have found the SPS easy to operate, although they have to work hard with the more frequent job changes resulting from the higher productivity. As a result, it is running 24 hours a day, five days a week."
