In association with the CarbonNeutral Company, the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) has launched what is claimed to be the first carbon calculator focused exclusively on the print and packaging industry and aligned with the principles of BSI PAS2050.

Using the on-line facility, BPIF members will be able to measure the carbon emissions produced by their site or from individual print contracts. They will also receive advice on how to reduce their emissions to the point of net zero. For offset programmes and certification, members will be referred to the CarbonNeutral Company.

Chief executive, BPIF, Michael Johnson, said: "The calculator will provide clients with a clear method to compare products and services across the industry."

Director of advisory services, the CarbonNeutral Company, Bill Sneyd, added: "Printers who implement a carbon management policy realise a range of benefits, such as maximising operational efficiencies and differentiating their service. Using the carbon calculator will help the print industry to get ‘on the front foot' on this critical environmental issue."
