Following a battle with a rare blood cancer, Professor John Davison has passed away. John leaves his wife Judith and daughter Sarah. John was a quiet, unassuming person of immense intellect, always referring to himself as an ‘inky'.  His expertise in ink technology and colour chemistry was unsurpassed. His office was bursting with carefully notated ink and coating formulations, along with minutely detailed experiments. John was the ‘experts expert'. Tens of thousands of people are leading full lives today thanks to John's fundamental research regarding printed bio-sensors.

John was a Visiting Professor in the Colour Chemistry Department of the University of Leeds where he obtained his Doctorate. He was a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry; a Fellow of Surface Coatings Technology and a Fellow of the Institute of Printing. He was a past President of the Oil and Colour Chemists Association. He also served on the BSI Graphics Technology committee and was a member of the ISO TC130 Graphics Technology Group.
